1. Overview


(1) A container terminal is a physical space that serves as a connecting point between marine and inland transports. Thus, it is an integral part of the transportation process for cargos

(2) At a container terminal, a variety of activities take place such as the loading and unloading of goods to and from ships, trucks, trains and feeders; the handling of containers; the collecting, warehousing and delivery of empty containers; and the maintenance and repair of containers and other equipment.

 

2. Structure

-   Staff: Includes Management, Back-office (Operation, Commercial, Finance,    etc), and Front-end Technical (Equipment operators, Signalmen, CFS workers,    etc).

-  Facilities: Accommodate berthing of vessels, and handling and warehousing of    containers.

-  Equipment: Includes quay cranes, yard tractors, etc for the loading, unloading    and transfer of containers.

-  IT system: A computerized system for efficient coordination between gates, yard
   planning, vessel stowage planning, billing, rail operations, statistics analysis,
   etc.
