Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) is the world's leading port investor, developer and operator with interests in 24 countries throughout Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas. Today, HPH operates a total 292berths in 47 ports together with a number of transportation related service companies. With industry recognized core competence in the effective and efficient management and operation of container ports, the HPH Group handled 51.8 million TEU in 2005.
HPH directly invests in transport hubs that serve a large hinterland and that either already support international trade or which have the potential to become key transport centers. In doing so, it provides local industry with a strong channel to world markets and also promotes the development of local market infrastructure.
The ports that HPH operates have also benefited from the company's policy of training local staff and transferring best practices and proprietary leading-edge technologies.
HPH is a subsidiary of the diversified Hutchison Whampoa Limited (HWL), and was formally established in 1994 to manage the Group's ports and related services worldwide. HWL is part of the Li Ka-shing group of companies. HWL's ultimate shareholder is Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited.
Aside from KIT, HPH has founded and been operating Hutchison Korea Terminals (HKT) in the port of Busan.
